Meet Concha
Harris County Pets — Houston, Texas
“She was absolutely exhausted and needed rest — and this was the first time she had felt safe in months.”
Concha came in as a stray from the streets of Houston. She spent nearly 60 days at Harris County Pets, one of the largest municipal shelters in the country. For most of that time, she was terrified — the noise of a busy shelter is disorienting for a dog who doesn’t understand why she’s there.
When Madison, an animal welfare volunteer, pulled Concha from the shelter and brought her to a foster home, something shifted. Concha climbed up next to her, put her head on her leg, and placed her paw over Madison’s face. She didn’t move. It was the first time she’d felt safe in months.
Within two weeks, a couple in Iowa made the trip to Houston to bring Concha home. She’s there now — settled, loved, and done with shelters forever.
